A video documenting the twin towers on Sept 11, 2001 from a police helicopter was just released. Watching this brought back all kinds of sickening feelings. I was headed to Soho in a cab when I passed by St. Vincent's hospital and saw doctors running into the street and then I had a direct view of the first tower and a gaping, smoking hole in it. I think I called my Mom then. I thought maybe a helicopter or small plane had accidentally flown into it. Then as I passed more city blocks after a left turn I heard a loud explosion and inbetween streets I saw flecks of glass like confetti in the air. I headed to my shoot and then watched in shock as I saw two towers smoking from out the window view and then only one tower standing when I looked outside again shortly after, and then there were none. It felt like the end of the world. Walking home was scary as there were fighter jets in the air. I thought that there might be more attacks on the city. RIP to all of those who died on that day and as a result of the toxic plumes years later.
