Several years ago I did a couple of test shoots with a model named Elizabeth Fairchild. She had the most incredible, huge eyes.This photo above came out and I asked her about it. She said that she was booked for a beauty shoot for Vogue but she called them to say that her eyes were infected, thinking that she would have to cancel. Vogue had her go to the shoot anyhow, thus resulting in the striking shot by Irving Penn.

The picture is entitled "Mascara Wars" by Irving Penn and the photo hangs in the MoMA here in NYC. I think it was actually a double page when it was published in Vogue.
